Browser guidance

Chrome is recommended. You can also use current desktop Edge, or Safari 26 or later on Mac. Keep your browser and operating system updated.

Import PDF, DOCX, TXT, RTF, or Markdown files. Settings shows library usage and limits. Performance depends on document complexity and library size; scanned-PDF text recognition may take longer on older computers.

Protect your local library

Imported files stay in your browser profile. Each browser or profile has a separate library. Clearing site data or deleting the profile can remove your work. Avoid private browsing for a library you intend to keep.

Request persistent storage when offered to reduce the risk of browser eviction. It does not prevent manual deletion. Keep an encrypted backup outside the browser.

Document processing stays local. Offline use requires the app's program files to finish caching. Hosting connections involve request metadata, as described in the privacy policy.

Back up before you need to restore

In Settings, export an encrypted backup after changes you want to keep. Locate the downloaded file before confirming it is saved; DocCite cannot verify that file for you.

Backups include your documents and library records. Keep the passphrase safe; DocCite cannot recover it. Backup encryption does not encrypt the active browser library, which someone with access to your profile may be able to open.

Restore through Settings with the same passphrase. It replaces the destination library, so back up existing work first. Without a usable backup, a lost library may be unrecoverable.

Web backups are incompatible with native DocCite Offline Transfer bundles. To move between web and native apps, import the original documents separately; saved library records do not transfer with them.

Review the evidence behind a result

Open cited passages and check their context before relying on a result. Search can miss information, and scanned text can contain recognition errors. The app indicates partial or unavailable similarity processing.

Saved notes can appear in search but do not supply answer evidence. DocCite does not provide medical or legal advice. Follow your organization's rules for sensitive documents.
